New Owly Shirts

I just made a batch of shirts with this owl design on them. So far I put them on black, sapphire and pink but all I have is white ink at the moment. These are mostly going to my family for christmas (if you are in my immediate family you didn't see this) but contact me if you want one.

J-Stat unmastered remix of Love Meets Lust

Last winter I was asked to do a remix for the Love Meets Lust, who were a new wave pop band sort of in the same style as Depeche Mode. I felt like I had a lot of the same influences as my (now deceased) contact in the band so I took the project to heart and worked on it for about a week. Unfortunately, although the band loved the mix I sent, a lot was lost in the mastering and the cut that made the album wasn't necessarily representative of what I put in to it.
Shortly after I sent them my remix I played a show at Luna in Royal Oak with the band which was an incredibly strange experience and I hope I never go there again but I got paid so it was cool and I also got to meet the rest of the band who were all really nice guys.
This is the dirty unmastered version. Enjoy.

OZ poster, typeface design

I'm completing the first of the end of the semester projects. This is the poster for the font I designed about a month ago. Final size: 24x36.

Closeup of the font:

OZ is an original font inspired by the combination of Art Deco architecture and urban decay that is specific to Detroit. The name also refrences the movie "The Wizard of Oz" which was made during the Art Deco movement."

Moleskine

This is also for the various projects and drawings that I think need a more permanent presentation than twitter or facebook can offer.

New blog, old name

I came across the term Coex System in an abnormal psychology book by Stanislav Grof. It was a term he used to describe a constellation of experiences, or how significant moments affect the choices we make later in life. You see all of our actions are connected like the way the choices we make as adults are directly related to experiences, good or bad, that we had when we were children.
I used COEX as the name for my music project for many years before I switched to John Static, or J-Stat but there is apparently someone on 4AD records that has been using that name for a while now. I think though that it is a perfect name for a design identity because it deals with the network and represents the invisible structure of life, which I believe is crucial to my art.
